Looking at the UP 200 stats and the time in which team left Wetmore this morning, I believe Ed left in 10th place, the only team to leave with all 12 dogs. I'm sure Krister is out as well but it's not posted yet. Ed was just minutes behind several teams and his run time to Wetmore last night was faster than most. So, he does have a very good chance of passing some teams out there! I'm projecting the finish to be around 11 am. Guess I'd better leave my luxurious accommodations and go outside!

Mike and I almost feel guilty tonight...we are hanging out in Grand Marais with Andy and Norm at their georgous beach house while Ed and Krister make their way to Wetmore for a night at the remote checkpoint. We think they'll be back here for the finish around 3 pm. It was great that the dogs all looked great so all 24 left the checkpoint and Mike and I don't even have any one we have to take ca

re of tonight. The dogs all ate well, rested well, and were pounding to leave. It's a little hard to decipher the standings right now until all the mushers take the remainder of their rest and their start differential, Once they leave Wetmore in the morning, they will all be on an equal playing field and you'll be able to tell who is in what place. For right now, you compare Ed and Krsiter's "time en route" from each checkpoint and compare that with others. It appears they are on the slower side, but remember, they are running an Iditarod team, not a "speed" team. The best 16 dogs from both teams will be combined for Ed's Iditarod team. So, speed is less important than hard pulling, healthy dogs. Ed was thrilled with the performance of the dogs thus far, as many of them are very young. As you can see from the videos, the dogs were jazzed to leave the checkpoint and there is still a LOT of race to go!

I was at the UP 200 banquet last night and had forgotten how many people not only follow our facebook page, but also look for updates here on our journal, so here we go!
Ed and Krister will start the UP 200 tonight, February 17th in Chatham.
Due to snow conditions, the UP 200 start will not take place in Marquette this year.
So, I’m home sewing a few last minute items, Ed, Krister, and head handler Mike Varley are headed to Marquette for the vet checks this morning.
I’ll head to Chatham for the race start this afternoon.
Mike and I will then head to Grand Marais where we will wait for the teams to arrive on early Saturday morning.
They will rest for the majority of the day in Grand Marias, before heading back to Wetmore for their 3rd checkpoint, and then they will return to Grand Marais for the finish.
The dogs are on Ed’s team are: Conch, Bomb, Krister, Enzo, Big Mama, Baba Ganoush, Cyborg, Bolt, Chuck, Swann, Scott and Cupid.
Krister: Gus, Rhu, Flynt, Judge, Whentel, Triton, Robben, Bradshaw, Eli, Susi, Gallea, and Mr. Schuester.
Ed will take the best, oldest, and most experienced 16 dogs from those teams with him to Iditarod.
He will leave on Wednesday with our trusty driver, Cliff Henning.
I believe this will be Cliff’s 5
th
trip to Iditarod with Ed!
Our guide crew is crazy busy here this week with tours.
Many students have winter break for President’s Day/Week, so we have a crew headed to Boyne today for the week and a crew doing tours at home.
Thanks to Jess, James, Matt, Lyndsie, and Hilary for keeping all the guests happy.
Eric Sharp from the Detroit Free Press did a fantastic piece on our kennel this week highlighting our tours.
