I always dread early December when the weather forecast plays havoc on my brain! Will we get snow, will we get a LOT of snow, when will it snow, has it snowed yet, ok, here comes the snow. Everytime I look at the forecast it seems to have changed! We are still running on quads, and I know the dogs are still happy, but we'd really like to break the sleds out! It's been a fantastic quad training year, but I know my guides are getting anxious. I was at a Tahquamenon Race board meeting this week and snow was a topic of discussion there as well. The final consensus was that it WILL come, and when it does it won't stop! So, we are bringing the snowmobile out from storage today in hopes that it will help with the snow dance. We did get a trace of snow this afternoon and there's some potential for lake effect snow tonight, so bring it on!

We had a beautiful snowfall last night, but most of it has melted away this afternoon. It sure looked like winter for the first day of December this year! It was actually a perfect dog running day as the ground was softened by the snow and the dogs were thrilled to roll around in it. Nate and I had a great visit with family over Thanksgiving and Ed enjoyed some time here with the dogs. He and our friend Nate Demers made a mad dash to International Falls, MN to pick up our "new" used walk in freezer. It's so much easier to walk upright to grab blocks of meat rather than bending over in our old ice block freezer. We had purchased it this summer, but it just took a while to organize transportation and now that it's meat season we figured we'd better get it here. We feed about 4000# of beef every month in addition to the Royal Canin dog food! Ed officially signed up for Iditarod 2012 yesterday, so get ready to cheer for the dogs again this year. He's more excited than ever to have a real race team. We've divided our touring kennel and racing kennel so that Ed's dogs will do very few tours this year. He'll have to help out a bit over the holiday season, but that should be about it. In the past, his dogs were at Boyne every weekend, but this year, Jess will head up that operation and make sure all the guides and dogs are well trained. I was down there this past weekend to set up our 'dog shack" and everything is in order and ready to go! As soon as we are sure winter is upon us, Rudy and 16 dogs will head to Maine to Sunday River to run with Krister for the season, and we'll be up and running tours here. It's getting very exciting!
