Overnight Adventures
Drive your own Dog Team!--Overnight Adventures 2010-2011
Adventure #1: Beginner Dog Sledding One Night/Two Days This is our most popular beginner adventure! Help train our future Iditarod team! On this adventure, you will learn the basics of mushing, how to drive a dog team, and spend one night winter camping in our heated tent. No experience necessary as you will be under the care of one of our fabulous, experienced guides.  Trip is all-inclusive, includes meals, one night lodging and all instruction. Each guest will drive his or her OWN 5-dog team.
Day 1: Nature's Kennel, arrive at 9 am.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast with us as you get ready to drive your own dog team. In the morning, you'll receive all the instruction necessary to take a practice run on a 3 mile loop. After our practice and lunch together, we'll pack our gear and get ready for our afternoon adventure into the wilderness. We'll leave the kennel around 2 pm, travel by dog team approximately 20 miles, arrive at camp, care for the dogs, have dinner, and enjoy the night in the woods around the camp fire. Our tent is heated with a wood stove and has comfortable bunks for sleeping.
Day 2: Wake up somewhere in the snow covered U.P. wilderness
Enjoy a hearty breakfast cooked by one of our guides. You'll have plenty of time to wake and feed the dogs, pack your gear back into the sled, and make the 20 mile trek home. You will arrive back at Nature's Kennel at approximately 1 pm.

Cost: Weekends and Holidays: $500/person    Midweek: $450/person  This overnight trip is designed for adults and children over 12 years of age.  If you have younger children, we also offer 1/2 day and full day trips.  A 10% discount is given if you book as a group of 4.

Adventure #2:  Extreme Dog Sledding 2 night/3 day Camping Trip with 5-Time Iditarod Musher Ed Stielstra This is a new trip, and is being offered as requested from several of our past guests.  Prior mushing experience is required as this trip is designed as the "next step" for guests wanting a more extreme adventure.  If you have you ever wondered what Iditarod training or travel along the Iditarod trail is like, then this trip is for you!! This adventure includes 30+ miles on our dog sledding trails each day, two nights of winter camping, all meals, and instruction on long distance dog mushing.  Guests will drive his or her OWN 8-dog team.  Upon your arrival, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast as we discuss the upcoming adventure, trails, challenges, and trip outline.  You will pack your sled for the adventure and head out on the trail by mid-morning.  Your adventure will take you over some of the most remote areas of the Eastern Upper Peninsula.  You will spend two nights along the trail with your dog team, learning the basics of winter camping, dog care, and winter survival.  Please inquire for more details about this exclusive adventure.

Cost: $950 per person, $100 discount for Nature's Kennel alumni. Trip is limited to TWO participants.  This trip is offered during WEEKDAYS ONLY due to snomobile traffic in the area.  If you have a specific date in mind, please inquire for availability.  Adults only.
