This trip is designed for people with little to no experience. All sessions (both dog sledding and ice climbing) are fully guided. The dog sledding portion includes a 20-mile (3-4 hour) excursion and the ice climbing is also a 3-4 hour session. You do have to have good physical strength to do these activities, be able to stand for 3-4 hours, have upper body strength for ice climbing, and have good balance.
Sunday March 10 Arrive at beautiful Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn in Curtis, MI. Check in any time after 3 pm and meet for dinner and reception at 6 pm. Meet Tasha, owner of Nature’s Kennel, who will be your guide for the duration of your trip. A short presentation on the Upper Peninsula will take place during dinner.
Monday March 11: After a hearty breakfast, we will depart for Nature’s Kennel at 9 AM. You’ll have the opportunity to meet the amazing sled dogs of Nature’s Kennel, and receive all the instruction necessary to drive your own dog team on a guided 20-mile dog sledding trip. Upon completion of the trip, we will have lunch at The Helmer House Inn, a cozy Upper Peninsula restaurant located in an historic inn. After lunch we will head to the End of the Road winery for a private wine tasting from this locally owned Upper Peninsula winery. The day will conclude with dinner at Chamberlin’s at 6 pm.
Tuesday March 12: Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am so we can depart for Downwind Sports in Munising by 8:30 am. We will meet our professional ice climbing guides, receive ice climbing gear, and make our way to some spectacular ice formations. A gourmet sack lunch will be provided that you can eat while taking a break from ice climbing. Climbing takes place from approximately 10-2 pm. The remainder of the afternoon can be spent doing some guided hiking with Tasha to waterfalls around Munising area or relaxing on your own.
