Taking Winter to the Extremes-Dog Sledding and Ice Climbing:

This trip is designed for people with little to no experience.  All sessions (both dog sledding and ice climbing) are fully guided.  The dog sledding portion includes a 20-mile (3-4 hour) excursion and the ice climbing is also a 3-4 hour session. You do have to have good physical strength to do these activities, be able to stand for 3-4 hours, have upper body strength for ice climbing, and have good balance.

Sunday March 10  Arrive at beautiful Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn in Curtis, MI.  Check in any time after 3 pm and meet for dinner and reception at 6 pm.  Meet Tasha, owner of Nature’s Kennel, who will be your guide for the duration of your trip. A short presentation on the Upper Peninsula will take place during dinner.

Monday March 11:  After a hearty breakfast, we will depart for Nature’s Kennel at 9 AM.  You’ll have the opportunity to meet the amazing sled dogs of Nature’s Kennel, and receive all the instruction necessary to drive your own dog team on a guided 20-mile dog sledding trip.  Upon completion of the trip, we will have lunch at The Helmer House Inn, a cozy Upper Peninsula restaurant located in an historic inn.  After lunch we will head to the End of the Road winery for a private wine tasting from this locally owned Upper Peninsula winery.  The day will conclude with dinner at Chamberlin’s at 6 pm.

Tuesday March 12:  Breakfast will be served at 7:30 am so we can depart for Downwind Sports in Munising by 8:30 am.  We will meet our professional ice climbing guides, receive ice climbing gear, and make our way to some spectacular ice formations.  A gourmet sack lunch will be provided that you can eat while taking a break from ice climbing.  Climbing takes place from approximately 10-2 pm.  The remainder of the afternoon can be spent doing some guided hiking with Tasha to waterfalls around Munising area or relaxing on your own.  Dinner and photo show from the adventures will take place at Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn at 6:30 pm.

Wedensday March 13:  Breakfast and Departure on your own.

​

Cost: $1650 per person.  Gratuities included.

​

Payment: A 50% deposit is required at the time of reservation.  The balance of the trip is due when you come for your adventure.  Payment may be made via all major credit cards or personal check.

Cancellation policy: In the unlikely event the trip is canceled due to weather conditions, a full refund will be issued. If participant(s) request a cancellation, the deposit will be refunded if request is made more than three weeks before the start of the trip.

Getting Here:  Air transportation is available to Sault Ste Marie, MI (Chippewa County Airport/CIU) or Marquette Airport (MQT).  There are rental cars available from both airports.
